Music has always been a significant part of my life. From a very young age, I knew that in one way or another I would always be involved in music. I attended Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio for my undergraduate studies, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Vocal Performance and Business. Upon graduation in 2010, I happened upon a job opportunity at a local community school in Ohio, where I helped teach GED preparation classes for adults. It was then that I discovered my true passion for teaching. I must admit that as I revealed my intentions to begin a Master’s in Music Education, my family, friends and previous professors simply laughed and told me they had all wondered when I would figure it out.
My years studying my Masters in Music at Colorado State University were incredible. Each class further confirmed my desire to become a music teacher. I was very fortunate to have been offered a Graduate Teaching position for the Music Education Department, which provided me with numerous leadership experiences and opportunities to teach throughout my own studies. I was thrilled to work as the assistant director for both CSU’s Concert Choir and Men’s Choir, and learned quite a bit about the rehearsal process and responsibilities required to lead a choir.
